Smash's Springtime Fairy
comments (1) November 5th, 2009 in sewing, design, garment construction, fabric, reader's closetThis is my springtime fairy/woodland pixie costume for Halloween 2009. The shoes, fairy wings, and antennae were store-bought, but the rest was made myself.
The leggings were McCalls 5512.
The dress, vest, and tulle underskirt were Simplicity 3675. I lengthened the dress and underskirt by 2 or 3 inches to work for my body type, and added an extra layer of tulle to add poofiness and make the colors more exciting. I also modified the vest to include flower petals and leaves, instead of just petals.
The arm warmers were added at the last minute (just an hour before I went to the Halloween party!) because I thought the costume needed an extra pop. I used a free pattern from the Burda website (called "Arms Warmed" by Yoshimi).
